Born in Lincoln, Nebraska on November 2, 1924, Marjorie was the youngest of three children born to George Bruce and Antoinette Storkan. She grew up with her brother Robert and sister Betty Bruce in Nebraska. She decided as a young girl to come out to California where she providentially met her future husband, Dale Proctor, a handsome sailor in the Navy. They were happily married for 55 years and brought into life three children, Linda Diane, known as Sister Bernadette, a Religious Sister and nurse with the Servants of Mary, Dale Jr., a talented photographer and Marjorie Lorine Phelps, their youngest, who later married and moved to Duncan, Okla. She has one grandson, Daniel Phelps, and two lovely great granddaughters, Jasmine and Jessica from Portland, Oregon.
Marjorie was employed at Litton Guidance Systems for over 30 years, offering her expertise, knowledge and capabilities to the company, where everyone affectionately called her Margie and Midge; she was loved by all. Gifted with many talents, Marjorie filled her home with her fine and exquisite oil paintings of portraits and ocean scenes. She made gifts for her children and friends with knitted, sewed and crocheted projects and we will miss her saying, “Oh honey, this is for you!” She loved to work in her rose garden and create beauty just as she, herself, was a beautiful person. Her smile, gentle spirit and the twinkle in her eyes will remain in our hearts forever.
In her later years, Marjorie was lovingly cared for by her son, Dale. He watched her every step to make sure that mom was always safe. Lorrie and the Servants of Mary also offered their excellent care and support during these past weeks as her health declined. Our gratitude and love go out to all of our sisters and friends who have supported and helped us to keep mom in her home, right where she wanted to be.
