Marshall Edward Matz

July 2, 1935 - December 3, 2020

On Thursday, December 3, 2020, Marshall Edward Matz, loving father and grandfather, passed away at the age of 85.

Marshall was born in Toledo, Ohio to Clelah Vivian Rowe and Edward John Matz. He was raised by Clelah Vivian Rowe and his stepfather Loomis Victor Rowe of Hillsdale, Michigan. He moved to Westlake Village, California in 1969 and lived there for the duration of his life.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business from Western Michigan University and a Master of Business Administration degree from California Lutheran College.

Marshall was a retired Underwriting Supervisor for State Farm Insurance and the former owner of Matz Realty. He was an avid golfer and longtime regular at Westlake Golf Course and Los Robles Golf Course.

A charming conversationalist with an open heart and a dry sense of humor, Marshall taught his friends and family to smile big, think critically and love unconditionally.

Marshall was preceded in death by his parents, his ex-wife, Eileen Ann Matz, and his grandson, Dominic Crescencio Vargas. He is survived by his children, Gregory David Matz and Cheryl Lynn Matz, son-in law, Mario Vargas, grandchildren, Nicolas Vargas, Jenna (Brogan) Nicholson and Megan (Brogan) Caine, and great-grandchildren, Hunter Nicholson and Emma Caine.

Private family services will be held on December 20, 2020. In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorial contributions can be made in Marshall’s honor to the Dominic C. Vargas BOP Scholarship at Purdue University.
