

Mary was born on July 27, 1963, in Southern California to Eva and Norwin Large, and was an older sister to William, Barbara, and Robert. She received her degree in psychology from UCLA and, later, her doctorate in neuropsychology. She dedicated her life’s work to helping children and families across California, impacting hundreds along the way. On April 5, 1990, she married Richard Johnson and they raised two daughters, Megan and Emma.
Mary’s greatest passion in life was her daughters; she was defined by motherhood. She structured her whole life around making sure her girls succeeded in life, passing along valuable lessons and values along the way. Her love for Megan and Emma pervaded every part of her life, and she could not have been a better mother. Mary’s profession brought her so much joy. Her dedication and care shone through in her exemplary reports and connections with both patients and colleagues. Mary was known for her wit and intelligence, admirable professionalism, kindheartedness, and the love she showed to all she knew. She will be remembered for all of this and more.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Megan and Emma, her husband Richard, her brothers and sisters, extended family, and many friends and colleagues.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 27th, 2022, at 2pm at Pierce Brothers in Westlake Village. Information is posted on Mary’s Facebook page if you wish to donate to a GoFundMe that will support her girls through this difficult time. Flowers can be donated on the Pierce Brothers website.
