
Raymond J Blackwell Jr. was born in Crane Missouri on August 25, 1927. He moved to California with his family as a young boy and eventually settled in the Los Angeles area. He attended Virgil Junior High School and Belmont High School where he met the love of his life and future wife Dolores Content who he married on September 13, 1949. They celebrated their love for 55 years.
Ray led a life dedicated to the service of his country, community and family. He served for one year with the United States Merchant Marine during World War II, two years with the United States Army during the Korean War and twenty eight years with the Los Angeles Police Department until he retired in 1978 as a Detective III.
In the years following retirement Ray and Dolores eventually moved to Simi Valley. They spent much of their time enjoying the rodeo events, equestrian competitions, softball games, baseball games and football games participated in by their children and grandchildren.
Ray entered into his rest when he was called into the presence of the Lord on May 7, 2011. He was preceded in death by his wife Dolores Blackwell in 2004 and his daughter in-law Karen Blackwell in 2007.
He is survived by his two sons Raymond J Blackwell III and Roger Blackwell, his Daughter in-law Connie Blackwell and four grandchildren, Casie Bailey (Blackwell), Christie Saunders (Blackwell), Wes Blackwell, Raymond J. Blackwell IV and four great grandchildren, Elinor Saunders, Charlie Saunders, Harper Bailey and Morgan Blackwell.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer’s Association of Los Angeles. Graveside service to be held Friday May 13th at 10am at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park in Westlake Village.
