

Richard (Dick) Carmen of Westlake Village, California, died August 3, 2018, after living a long and fulfilling life. Dick was born on December 11, 1925. He was the youngest of three children to be born to Fred and Clara Carmen in Nebraska City, Nebraska. Dick loved his Nebraska heritage and was a true Cornhusker fan. He attended schools in Nebraska City and graduated High School in 1943.
Dick served in the Navy in World War II on board the USS Dorsey and survived a Kamikaze Attack to see the Flag raised on Iwo Jima. After the War he joined the Air Force, serving in the Korean War as an air traffic controller and retired June 1, 1966. He took a position at General Telephone soon after he left the Air Force and retired for good in December of 1988.
Dick married Doris Marie Feeken on April 10, 1949, and began their marriage of 69 years. Dick always loved music. He was a member of the Lompoc Barber Shop Chorus for 13 years and attended almost all of the Village Voices concerts that his family would sing in.
He is survived by his wife Doris Carmen, his children Connie (Tom) Hopkins, Cindy (Steve) Haacke, Mike (Linda) Carmen, six grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles (Fred) and Clara Carmen, his sister Phyllis Sellmeyer, his brother Bill Carmen, and his grandson Cory Haacke.
