Ruth Maruoka, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully with family by her side. She was born on November 28, 1928, in Sacramento, California, and lived a long, full life grounded in faith, family, and compassion.
She grew up in California, attending school in Pacific Grove and Sacramento before her family was relocated to the Rohwer internment camp during World War II. Even through difficult times, Ruth developed the resilience and gentle strength that would become her legacy. After the war, she returned home, continued her schooling, and eventually followed her calling into nursing. She trained at Paradise Valley Hospital and went on to care for countless families at Sutter Hospital, Redlands Community Hospital, and Ventura County Hospital, where she retired as Pediatric Coordinator.
In 1952, Ruth married David Maruoka, the love of her life. They welcomed their beautiful daughter Carolyn Stanley (husband Bob), who brought them endless joy. Ruth adored her grandsons Robert Stanley (wife Stephanie) and Jonathan Stanley, and she loved being “Great-Grandma” to Alicia, Sophia, and Matt Stanley and “Great-Great-Grandma” to little Ariana Rodriguez. Her family truly was her heart.
Ruth and David enjoyed many happy years traveling the world, spending summers and holidays with family, and making memories that are still cherished today. After David passed in 2003, Ruth continued to stay active—taking daily walks to The Coffee Bean to meet her friend Beverly Price, attending Camarillo SDA Church with family, and joining senior exercise and computer classes. She never stopped learning, moving, or connecting with the people around her.
Ruth lived each day with kindness and gratitude. She prayed that God would help her be a blessing to someone—and she was. Her warmth, gentle heart, and quiet strength will be remembered and treasured by everyone who loved her.
