I miss Steve very much, there not a single day that goes by that I don't  think about him. Before I knew Steve, I knew of him. His accomplishments were closely followed in LA Times as he and Mccullah were vying for the State Championship. I was always envious of his speed. I was fortunate to meet him at Pierce College in the mid-sixties and. I stayed in touch personally and via the phone until his passing. Steve in spite of all his accomplishments was always humble and a one-of-a-kind person. His quick wit and poignant personality traits were second to none. I skied with Steve many times and he displayed the same attributes as he did in track and field. I will never forget the after skiing get togethers and the great stories shared among friends.  I was proud to be one of his many friends.

Hi Pat-

I attended Crespi for four years:  1960 to 1964.  I was on the track team all four years with Steve.  He was a superb hurdler and sprinter - as everyone knew (and I think he high jumped and long jumped).  I was an average distance runner and pole vaulter.

I, to this day, vividly remember running some repeat 330s with him for a work out.  He ran so fluid and effortlessly and I couldn't turn my legs over fast enough to stay even close to him.

We both graduated June, 1964.  There are some in high school I never forgot and to this day follow the best I can.  Steve was at the top of the list.  It was easier to follow Steve once google was created at the end of 1998.

To this day I periodically google a few I went to high school with, including Steve.

About a week ago I googled Steve, and much to my shock and sincere sadness, saw obituary after his name.  I'm still in disbelief.  I thought of him as invincible. 

Steve was the same age as me.  I often wonder why the man upstairs decides who leaves earlier than another.  As the Lords prayer says:  "Thy Will be done on Earth, as it is in Heaven".  

I take some solace in a book titled "Imagine Heaven".  While Steve may not have remembered me, I hope that I can meet up with him after I leave this earth.

I have a prayer list that keeps expanding.  Steve has been added to it.   

I wish the best for you and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

My Dear Friend, Pat, and Family, 
Sometimes in life, we are blessed to meet people that truly touch our heart and soul.  My friendship with you is just that – true and real and trusting.  The second blessing of that friendship was meeting Steve.  The two of you were the perfect couple - loving, caring, gentle, strong and passionate about your family and careers.  We met in the late 80’s and expected life was forever at that time.  Youth is so blissful and naive.  We want to keep loved ones with us forever and so it hurts so much when forever comes too soon. Suddenly acceptance is required with no permission asked - and the loss is so great.  You were his Angel, for sure.  He did have that quick wit he is well known for.  Larry and I recall the day we all enjoyed Sunday brunch at Boccaccio’s at the Westlake landing.  We sat outside on a beautiful sunny day overlooking the lake, watching the birds fly so freely and the ducks that wander around the property waiting for a morsel of anything.  We had one persistent duck approach our table, quacking for a snack.  In the middle of our conversation, Steve turned to the duck and said “No, we don’t need Aflac today” and then continued back to our conversation.  We laughed so hard at the spontaneity of the remark and so apropos for the attention this duck was seeking.  Funnier, is the duck walked away – I guess he knew he lost a sale!  We enjoyed all the wonderful occasions we were fortunate enough to share with this man and our families over the years.  Steve left his mark in our lives and in our hearts.  He will never be forgotten.  Pat, his spirit has moved inside your heart to live forever. Treasure your memories and focus on the beautiful life that you had together.  Let the blessings that you shared bathe you with love, encourage you with comfort and inspire you to go on knowing he is finally at peace. What do you say about our friend we have known since 1983. We knew him as Camo, otherwise known as Steve Caminiti. He welcomed us to the neighborhood with a smile. He was always the Goodwill Ambassador of the Cul de Sac, talking to everyone. He would make the rounds and make everyone feel special and valued. His sense of humor was exemplary! We would all stop our cars to say hello and talk to Steve whenever we would see him walking the neighborhood. He was our son Alex's hero. He was one of the most honest, funny and ethical men we have ever known. He was  also the most popular man in the Cul de Sac. The man we knew was the perfect match for his loving and caring wife, Pat. He loved his children with every bit of his being. He shared his love of sports, especially track with  Kari and Jay, another of our son's heroes  and Kari was our son's first crush !  Camo loved and supported  both Kari and Jay in everything they did. We will deeply miss our friend Camo's warm smile and sense of humor. The Cul de Sac will just not be the same without him standing in the street and chatting with everyone. We will miss you old friend!
Our hearts go out to Pat,Kari, Jay and Steve's entire family.
Pat, we will ALWAYS be here for you because we love you and will ALWAYS love our friend Camo.

Pat,
I was very fortunate to call Steve my friend for the last fifty four years.  We met at the University of New Mexico and were teammates on the track team.  I was always in awe of Steve's athletic prowess.  But I also admired his friendly personality, sense of humor, solid faith, and respect for others.  More recently we had the chance to reconnect and once again had some fun together.  The one thing that was very obvious was his love for you.  We were never together or never just talking on the phone, when he didn't talk about you.  And, as I have gotten to know you it is easy to understand his feelings.  Steve leaves many friends from his track days who I am sure share my feelings of him.

I will miss Steve.  But I will always smile when I think of him.

When I was young I came to know a handful of truly extraordinary people. But I honestly didn’t know it at the time, because in my little world I couldn’t yet appreciate how extraordinary those people were, or the extraordinary blessings they brought to my life. Only as the years have passed have I come to recognize that what in my youth I may have taken for granted in those people, are in fact the rarest of things to find once you start to travel the real world. Men with strength and character worn everyday, whether the day brings fortune or adversity, I have come to see are few and hard to find, if only because they don’t do it for attention or accolades. They live that way because it is right. When I search hard into my heart even as I grieve and so miss him, it is this rare strength and character that defines Steve for me.
 
Linda and I saw Steve a few weeks ago at church. I knew he was hurting, but he didn’t show it. He was full with nothing but honesty about what he faced and the peace he had found with you at his side and, as always is the case with lifelong friends, he made us feel as though we had seen him just the day before. I now see that chance meeting as a blessing, maybe the good Lord giving me an opportunity that I didn’t know at the time would be the last, to see and hear and feel and receive those rare gifts Steve always gave me.
 
Emerson wrote On Heroism, ”When you have chosen your part, abide by it, and do not try to weakly reconcile yourself to the world … Adhere to your own acts.” Steve chose his part in my life and the lives of others. He didn’t talk about that: he acted, day in and day out, to quietly offer his strength and character for his friends and those he loved to hold onto in good and bad times, and to aspire to earn and reflect in their own lives, and pass on. Steve was and is my hero.

Steve (Cam)was such a dedicated loving person in his Life. He became a loving , caring, dedicated husband to my dearest friend Pat and for that we were so happy and grateful.  Dave and I were so happy to have shared some very special times with the four of us in Thousand Oaks and in Prescott, Arizona. We are so very thankful for the memories we were able to create together.  Hugs and Prayers for His and Their Family. 

Steve  was a great individual and also one of the greatest Crespi Celts of all time.  He was fun to be around and always had a smile. He loved his family and always had a positive outlook. He fought a heroic fight  and he will be missed. God bless Steve. Love, Lennie, Susie & John Ciufo
