He worked as a cargo inspector at an insurance company in Baghdad, which allowed him to travel to many ports around the world. In 1980 Tarik sacrificed everything, leaving his homeland to give his children a chance at a better future. He traveled with them from Baghdad to Kuwait, to Italy, to Chicago, then finally settled in Southern California. He devoted countless days and nights to his new job as a carpenter, determined to provide for his family. He forged new friendships, reconnected with old friends, and enjoyed a comfortable life.
He was actively involved in woodworking, creating beautiful pieces of furniture and cabinetry. He also loved to watch his favorite basketball team, the LA Lakers. He always printed all the game schedules to make sure he never missed any games.
