Timothy James Bernstein

Timothy James Bernstein, age 57, entered eternal rest on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at his home in Thousand Oaks. Tim was a resident of Ventura County for 34 years. He was born in Los Angeles and graduated from Notre Dame High school.

Tim's parents, Abraham and Margaret Bernstein, as well as his sister, Jane, preceded Tim in death.

Tim retired two years ago after a 37-year career with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. He fought a courageous battle with cancer for 15 years, never losing his sense of humor and positive attitude. He loved his family, his faith, his friends and his fire department.

He found his soul mate when he married Diana Skelly-Bernstein on February 12, 1983. They were blessed with two beautiful children, Timothy James Bernstein II and Krista Elise Bernstein, who were the joys of his life. Even struggling with cancer, he managed to be at both children's weddings. His son, Timothy James Bernstein II, married Abigail Williams on October 16, 2011 and his daughter, Krista Elise Bernstein, married Tracy Goebel on July 1, 2012. He is survived by his beloved wife, his son, his daughter, his brother Bill Bernstein and wife Karen, his 2nd Mom Gayle Skelly and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the VITAS Hospice Care and The Angeles Clinic for the wonderful care given Tim on this cancer journey.

A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2012, at 1 pm at Bethany Church on the Hill, located at 200 W. Bethany Court, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360. His burial will follow at 2:30 pm at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park, located at 5600 Lindero Canyon Road, Westlake Village, CA 91362. Reception to follow back at Bethany Church on the Hill.
