With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved Kinh Thi Pham. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother who was always there for her family. We will miss her dearly. Mrs. PHAM passed away on October 12, 2022, while sleeping peacefully at her home in Gardena, California. She was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her passing.
She was born in Ha Dong, Vietnam, to Hien Thi Nguyen and Tan Van Pham. She lost her father to lung disease at the age of three. Despite this tragedy, she went to school and spent her childhood helping her family. She met her husband, Lien Ngoc Vu, a train conductor, on a train ride, and they were married in 1945 in Ha Noi, Vietnam, raising their six children happily for sixty four years until his passing in 1981, She came to America to escape the Communist Government and settled in Gardena, California.
She experienced many hardships in life that made her resilient and strong willed. Growing up during wartime, she endured many political conflicts and was forced to flee her home for most of her young life. First, in the early '40s, during the French and Japanese war. Next, in 1954, when Vietnam was divided
into the Communist North and the Capitalist South, she and her family fled to South Vietnam. On April 30, 1975, when the Communist North seized the South, she was separated from her husband, a Major in the Police Academy, outside the US Embassy in Saigon. She and her three daughters endured six years of hardship and scrutiny under communism. She attempted to escape Vietnam several times and was imprisoned twice. She finally came to Thailand by boat with her daughters and reunited with her husband in Gardena, California.
She lived a full life as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, watching cooking shows, and Vietnamese movies. She was a talented knitter and knitted the most beautiful sweaters. She loved to be with her family and cooked delicious Vietnamese food for them. She gained trust and love from those who knew her by being sincere, hardworking, caring and straightforward. She made people feel comfortable with her beautiful smile. Most of all, she loved her family and friends and instilled good values in her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by six children , twelve grandchildren, and nine great -grandchildren. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
