In Loving Memory Of Ba NGUY THI LAM, age 87, of Orange, California passed away on Monday, January 23, 2023. With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother Lam Thi Nguy on January 23, 2023. She fought a long and valiant battle with Alzheimer's disease but passed peacefully at home surrounded by her loving children. She was born on April 25, 1935, to Cam Van (mother) and Khoan Nguy (father) in Vietnam. She had two older brothers and one older sister. It was her beauty, grace, devotion, and wit that won over our father Ty Huynh (may he also rest in peace) when they met as teenagers. They wed shortly after in 1956. From that day, and for over 60 years, she was a loving and selfless wife, mother, and grandmother. Although they had limited formal education, our parents' unrivaled work ethic allowed them to build a successful bakery while raising three sons and six daughters during a time of turmoil in Vietnam. In 1979, after years of saving, they were able to bring their children, mother, and two brothers to the United States to start a new life. In the California where our family settled, our mother continued the daunting job of raising nine children as a stay- at- home mom even as she continued to support our father and take classes to learn English. Despite the challenges of living in a new country, not knowing the language, and with our father working endless hours to support our family, she always ensured her children were safe, loved and well fed. She was the best chef and tailor and had a beautiful voice. She loved singing lullabies to her kids and eventually grandkids rocking each to sleep with her sleep songs. She was a kind and gentle soul but also was fiercely smart...no one was as facile as her with a Chinese abacus and she ran the books for our family business for years. Luckily, not only was she an amazing cook but baker and she had a sweet tooth for desserts, Durian, and made the best cassava cake. She loved watching Chinese dramas and always thought her sons resembled her favorite actor, Andy Lau. She enjoyed traveling to Asia and Europe with our father but loved spending time with her children and grandchildren the most. Even when dementia started to steal her memories, you could always see in her eyes, that twinkle of mischief, her witty comments, and beautiful smile. She had the most envious skin and hair, with her outer beauty a reflection of the true inner beauty that she is. She is survived by her nine children (Phong, Judy, Van, Heidi, Charlie, Sarah, Mark, Holly, and Kelly) and nineteen grandchildren. We will miss her greatly ...but know she is at peace and by our father's side. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.peekfuneralhome.com for the Huynh family.
