

HANLEY, Adele F., age 79, of Norwood, NJ on Tuesday, August 1, 2017. She was the beloved wife of 50 years to the late Robert H. Hanley. Devoted mother of Diane Carson and her husband Peter of Groton, MA; Jean Hanley and her partner Douglas Hahn of Norwood, NJ; the late Robert E. Hanley and his late wife Wendy. Loving sister of Henry George Schott. Loving grandmother of Sarah and Rebecca Carson. She was predeceased by her brother Charles Fredrick Schott.
Born and raised in Staten Island, NY, she resided in Norwood for the past 55 years, where she raised her family. She received a BA in Geology from Hunter College in 1958, at a time when there were not many female students in the field. In 2001 she retired from a 32-year career as a Staff Associate Research Officer in Geochemistry at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University in Palisades, NY, where she provided the analytical support for a wide variety of studies on marine, dust and ice core projects. She also participated in several oceanographic research cruises.
Adele will be deeply missed by those who loved her. She will be remembered for her love of folk & bluegrass music, attending festivals near and far, singing, playing guitar, dancing, doing crossword puzzles, needlework and gardening.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements will be by Becker Funeral Home, Westwood, NJ.
