Albert R. Burchell

Albert R. BURCHELL, M.D. 85, of River Vale, NJ, passed away on January 19, 2018. Albert resided most recently in the home of his daughter Patricia Burchell, in Woodcliff Lake. He was an active parishioner of Our Lady of Victories R.C. Church in Harrington Park where he taught CCD and was a lector for the Saturday evening mass for many years. He was a graduate of Regis High School in NYC, Fordham University and Cornell University Medical School. He was a highly regarded surgeon and teacher at St. Vincent’s Hospital until he retired in 2003. Albert’s specialty and research was in cirrhosis of the liver and the implementation of the shunt. His research was published in medical journals and presented at national conferences. In 2003, he was the honored recipient of the St. Vincent de Paul Distinguished Physician of the Year Award at the Angelus Awards Gala at the Waldorf-Astoria in NYC. He lost his beloved wife of 55 years, Barbara Burchell, (nee Conway) in 2008. He was the devoted father of Theresa and Jack Schatmeyer, Karen Burchell, Patricia Burchell, Susan and Doug Murphy, Maureen and Matthew Doane, Richard and Olive Burchell, Margaret and James Scarry, Donna and Joe Linka, Amy Burchell and Kathleen and Tony Servidio. Grandfather of Katelyn, Brian, Jason, Melissa, Michael, Matthew, Dylan, Kyle, Alyssa, Conner, Tyler, Ryleigh, Caelan, Meghan, Erin, James, Sean, Kira, Ashley, Luke, and Sophia, Great-grandfather to Ryan, Erin, and Austin. Beloved son of the late Nicholas and Florence (nee Doscher), Dear brother of the late Jeanne K. Burchell and Raymond Burchell. Funeral Liturgy at Our Lady of Victories R.C. Church, Harrington Park, NJ, on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at 10 AM. Entombment, Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ. The family will receive their relatives and friends at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ, on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 from 3-5 and 7-9 PM.
