

Angela Martinez, 92, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 31, 2019. She was born on May 31, 1927 in Leyte, Philippines. She earned her degree in nursing from the Southern Island Hospital in Cebu City where she started her long and successful career. She also met her husband Protacio there. They had five children: Perla, Leonor, Priscilla, Ray and Rose. She moved to the U.S. in 1972 settling in Brooklyn, NY with her family and continuing her nursing career at the Lutheran Medical Center in Sunset Park. She worked in the neonatal ICU and helped many premature babies gain their health and go on to live long and healthy lives. Angela was a devout Catholic. She was also an outstanding chef specializing in Filipino dishes which delighted her family and friends. She was also a prolific knitter and a tenacious Scrabble player. Angela was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was predeceased by her husband Protacio and is survived by her children Perla Martinez, Leonor and her husband Stan Czarnecki, Priscilla Martinez, Ray Martinez and Rose Weisbecker and her husband Scott Weisbecker. She is also survived by her grandchildren Wesley Thornton, Christine Czarnecki, Jonathan Czarnecki, Tiffany Kaehler and her husband Matt Kaehler and Mathew Weisbecker as well as her great-granddaughter, Maria Santos. There will be a viewing for Angela at the Becker Funeral Home at 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ on January 2nd from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. There will also be a funeral mass at St. John the Baptist at 69 Valley Street, Hillsdale, NJ on January 3rd at 10:00 a.m.
