Angelina was born on June 5, 1929, in Pannarano, Italy to parents Ersilia and Sabato Franco. At the age of 18 years old, she emigrated to the United States with her mother on the SS Saturnia via a 12-day naval journey. Shortly after her arrival, she began working with the International Ladies’ Workers” Garment Union (ILGWU) in North Bergen, NJ, as a seamstress. Unknowingly she would soon meet her future husband, Antonio Zarro. Antonio lived just ten-miles away from Angelina in a town called, Chianche, Italy. But it was not until they lived within a four-block radius in North Bergen, NJ, that they would meet on a bus ride home from English classes. Shortly after, they married and welcomed three children. Angelina’s effortless talent for gardening and cooking was matched only by her generosity in sharing the fruits of her labor with those she cherished. She is survived by her sons and daughter Michael, Anthony, and Celia Zarro-Schmitt. Her granddaughters Danielle and Jillian, as well as great grandson, Oliver.
