It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Catherine Ann Mulligan (née Morrison) of Emerson, New Jersey. Surrounded by her loving family, Catherine passed peacefully on Friday, August 29, 2025. She is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years, John, and their children: John (Donna), Mary (Jeff), Brian (Lisa), Cathy (Joe), Krista (Jamie), and Greg (Susanne).
She was a proud grandmother to fifteen grandchildren—John, Rebecca, Madison, Jeffrey (Dana), Christopher, Andrew, Brian, Devan (Brian), Catie (Devin), Julia, Kasey, Riley, Kieran, Hayden, and Finley—and great-grandmother to Sadie. Catherine was predeceased by her sister, Jean (Morrison) Mulligan.
Born on April 29, 1937, in the Yorkville section of Manhattan, Catherine graduated from Julia Richmond High School and worked at Capitol Records before marrying John in 1961 at St. Stephen of Hungary Church. Together, they built a beautiful life in Emerson, raising six children and cherishing time with their growing family.
Catherine treasured her lifelong friendships with Eileen Janec, June Murphy, and Mary Rushka, and enjoyed summers at Lake Hopatcong. She loved traveling—especially to Ireland—and spent her Sundays reading the Bergen Record’s travel section in search of the next adventure.
In retirement, Catherine and John lived in Manasquan, New Jersey, and wintered in Sanibel Island, Florida, where they hosted family visits, enjoyed shelling, and relaxed with friends. Catherine especially loved family game nights and movie nights with her grandchildren. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to family, faith, and friendship.
Interment will be held at St. Raymond’s Cemetery in the Bronx.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Catherine’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association or Grace Healthcare Services.
