With the Autumn leaves now falling, our dear Lord, Jesus decided another Angel was needed up in Heaven. On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, with her favorite season of the year abounding, God called our Cheryl Alonso Dentato to join Him in Heaven above.
Beloved wife of Thomas Dentato, life's most important things for Cheryl were her husband, her family, and her friends to whom she dedicated her life. She leaves behind her Mom and Dad, Gene and Angela Alonso, her sister Darnel Topinka, her husband Keith and their children Mason, Ereka, and Vanessa, her cousin Michele Sutera, her husband Neal and their children Michael and Leonardo, her cousin Marisa Reis, her husband John and their child Alessia, her brother-in-law Patrick Dentato, his wife Carolyn and their children Nicholas and Lauren, her sister-in-law Maria Simmons, her husband Michael and their children Meagan Vliet and her husband Timothy and great nephew Grayson Vliet, and Michele Simmons and her fiance Kyle Flannelly, her sister-in-law Donna Vitale, her husband Luigi and their children Christina and Stephanie. She was predeceased by her husband's parents, Nicholas and Marie Dentato.
Cheryl also leaves behind her childhood friend, Nancy Girgenti and dearest friends Connie Ferrace Pizzillo, Merry Jacobson, Ivana McHugh and Sarah Lo Piccolo, as well as countless other friends and family.
Cheryl had a 44-year career as a dental hygienist working for Drs. Philip and Robert Barone. Her excellence in her work and her compassion for people has left all her patients, whom she considered her extended family, missing her terribly. Their constant concern and reaching out to her throughout her illness meant the world to her, and she always expressed her gratefulness for their caring.
Cheryl never understood the depth of how many lives she touched, but it was shown by the outpouring of love of so many people.
Her love of dance, travel, music and food showed the diversity of her life, but the love she poured out of her heart revealed her true beauty as an angel each and every day.
In honor of a beautiful person, a viewing will be held for Cheryl on Sunday, October 19th, at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road Westwood, NJ, from 2-6 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 20th at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Hillsdale.
In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to make a donation may do so to the Greater NY Chapter of the ALS Association or to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
