Dorothy M. Marousek

Township of Washington – Dorothy Marion Marousek (nee: Hemberg) of the Township of Washington, passed peacefully on Friday, October 8, 2021, at 5:00 p.m. Days earlier, she had celebrated her 96th birthday at a party with her family.

Dott, as she was known to friends and family, was born in Upper Darby, PA, in 1925. At an early age, her family moved to Ridgewood, New Jersey, where she attended grade school and high school. Upon graduating high school, she attended the Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in New York City.

It was during her last year in high school that she met the love of her life, Warren Marousek, at a local baseball game. They married June 28, 1947. Dott and Warren made their first home in Edgewater, NJ, later moving to River Vale, NJ. Upon Warren’s passing in 1986, Dott moved to the Northgate Townhome Community in 1987.

Dott dedicated her life to raising her children and grandchildren. During the earlier years, she volunteered with the local PTA and held officer positions with the River Vale Women’s Club. Once her children were grown, she worked at several administrative assistant jobs and political campaign positions. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and Pascack Valley Hospital. But her favorite “occupation” was still wife, mother, and grandma.

Dott was a voracious reader of all genres of fiction with her favorite book being “Atlas Shrugged.” She was extraordinarily talented at all needlecrafts, including petit-point and cross-stich. In her later years, she shared her joy of jigsaw puzzles (but only 1500 pieces or greater!) with her grandchildren.

Dott is survived by her daughters, Judith Lampley and her husband, Thomas Lampley, and Janet Dowe and her husband, Daniel Dowe. She also leaves behind the joys of her life, her four granddaughters, Christina Dowe, Lauren Dowe (and her fiancé Matthew Montague), Caroline Dowe, and Allison Dowe, and special friend and “other daughter,” Patricia Montini.

A memorial service will be held in Dott’s honor on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 11:15AM the Church of the Presentation, 271 West Saddle River Road, Upper Saddle River, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (woundedwarriorproject.org).
