Edward was born on January 28, 1930, in Jersey City, New Jersey to Angelo and Mary Spitaletta. He was a long-time resident of Rutherford, Saddle River and Palm Beach, Florida. His death was recently preceded by the passing of his loving sister Josephine DeMeo in 2021 and loving brother-in-law Richard Lanza in 2018.
Edward was an Air Force veteran who served in the Korean War where he was also a saxophone player in the band. When asked what college he attended, Edward would say “the Korean War was my college.” In 1954, after Edward returned from the War, he married the love of his life, Mary (nee Lupis). Their lifetime love affair lasted 67 years.
Growing up in a working-class, immigrant family, Edward developed a strong work ethic which helped him become a self-made businessman, inventor and entrepreneur in the Housewares and Retail Display industries. His legacy carries on today through his family owned and operated companies, Lola Products and Clip Strip Corporation.
Edward was proud of his Italian American heritage and traditions which included large Sunday family gatherings for dinner and attending Sunday Mass where he was an usher at Saint Gabriel’s Church. He was also a long-time member of The Columbians, an Italian American Philanthropic Organization.
Edward was a great Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Cousin, Uncle and Friend. He will be remembered as a family man, business leader and impeccable dresser where he was always known to wear a jacket, tie, and silk pocket square.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at 10 am at Saint Gabriel’s Church in Saddle River, followed by his burial at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah. Due to Covid, the family requests that masks be worn at the services. There will be a celebration of Edward’s life to be announced at a later date. In lieu of sending flowers, you can donate on his behalf to one of his favorite charities, the Disabled Veterans of America (www. dav.org).
