Fred A. Franco

Fred Franco, 78, of Hillsdale, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2024. Preceded in death by his loving parents Giuseppe Franco and Raffaella Franco, née Lauritano, of Amalfi, Italy, and his wife Suzanne Franco. Devoted father of Lisa Leiva and her husband Michael, Diane Magarelli and her husband Greg, and Joseph Franco and his wife Melissa. Loving grandfather of Allison, Nicholas, Gregory, and Thomas. Born in Amalfi, Italy, he immigrated to the United States in 1955 through Ellis Island and settled in the Bronx. Fred lived in Hillsdale for 48 years. Fred was a communications technician with the New York Telephone Company and happily retired from Lucent Technologies. He served in the U.S. Army during peacetime. Fred was an avid gardener and the “neighborhood handyman” as he always lent a hand to help friends and family in any household projects.

The family will receive their relatives and friends from 4-8pm on Tuesday, February 20th at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood. A Mass celebrating Fred’s life and faith will be held on Wednesday, February 21st at 10am at St. John’s the Baptist Church in Hillsdale. Entombment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John’s the Baptist R.C. Church, 69 Valley Street, Hillsdale, NJ 07642.
