EINSTEIN, Jean-Philippe, 69, of East Haven, CT, formerly of Westwood and Mountainside, NJ, passed away on Friday, March 28th, 2025. Jean is survived by his daughters Stephanie Tashiro and her husband Jun, and Janelle Spehalski and her husband Daniel; his grandchildren Hayden, Gale, Madison, and Sloane, who called him “Pop-Pop”; his siblings Rita, Gilles, and Jessica; and by his many nieces and nephews, who knew him as “Uncle Johnny”. He is predeceased by his parents, Ernst and Charlene Einstein.
Jean was known for his humor and sarcasm by everyone he encountered. He was a 1974 graduate of the New Hampton School, where he was the top wrestler in his class. In recent years, Jean greatly enjoyed his time traveling to New Hampton School reunions with his friends. Jean worked for the family business, Einstein Moomjy, and managed the Plainfield, NJ store. He was a connoisseur of fine foods, with a deep love of French food, but also a love of good deli sandwiches. He was also a skilled cook, and would challenge himself by asking his daughters to name ingredients, which he would combine to create new and excellent recipes. Jean was a skilled gardener and produced way too many tomatoes for his family to eat. He also loved biking, both for endurance on his own and for fun with his daughters. He was a Yankees fan and attended several World Series games. He was also a fan of whatever sport his daughters were playing, and could usually be found on the sidelines, still in a suit from work, cheering them on.
The family will receive guests at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Rd., Westwood, NJ on Sunday, April 13 from 1-5pm, with a memorial service starting at 4pm. Contributions can be made in Jean's name to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson’s Foundation @ https://secure3.convio.net/prkorg/site/TR/Tributes/General?px=3088644&pg=personal&fr_id=5906.
