Since the day he was born in Ireland, John Patrick Bohan has been kind, noble, and hardworking. He grew up in Cloonaugh, Drumlish, County Longford where he tended to the family farm alongside his parents Anne and Cornelius, his sister Anna Mae, and his three late brothers James, Cornelius, and Peter.
While studying in Ireland, John began venturing to New York City during Christmas and summers with nothing but a phonebook in hand which he used to find work in pubs throughout the city. New York soon became his new home as he pursued his architectural degree at Pratt Institute and earned two master’s degrees from Columbia University and NYU.
He went on to work with famous architects including Philip Johnson before opening up his solo firm. John designed many pub restaurants in NYC/Yonkers, several of which for his close friends John Mahon and Hugh O’Lunney.
As a true family man, John and his wife Joan just celebrated their 23rd wedding anniversary, and they have a set of twin boys named Sean and Liam.
John brought his sense of humor with him everywhere. He enjoyed photography and travel. He was a righteous man with a pure heart, so very patient, and a true gentleman.
After a long battle with Sarcoidosis, a genetic disease affecting his lungs, John passed away peacefully on November 21, 2024, with his wife and two sons at his side.
