John Chambers cared deeply about his family and his friends. Cherished only child of Sally (nee Lynch) and Jack Chambers, they moved from Brooklyn, NY, to River Edge, NJ. He grew up next door to one of his many precious aunts and uncles and cousins on Princeton Drive where they hosted many family gatherings. In high school at Bergen Catholic is where he was introduced by friends to the young darling from Holy Angels who would become his wife, Kathie (nee McCloskey), who sadly predeceased him in 2014. The sweethearts had so many adventures with friends and family...many of them down the Jersey shore. John's father, his namesake, passed too young while John was completing his education at Manhattan College. John earned his BA in English, which could be recognized instantly when he played Scrabble! John & Kathie enjoyed many many years together where they established their home in Westwood, NJ.
They were thrilled to be a part of the community, and shuffled their children to the swim clubs, the scout meetings, the Y, the baseball fields, the marching band rehearsals, the school plays, the Bergen Catholic football games, and local and NY theater and music for special occasions. John was passionate about his membership with the Lions Club since 1982 and he received their Melvin Jones Fellowship award in 2007. This honor is conferred on those who demonstrate practical application of the Lions' motto, "We Serve." Over the years he held many offices for them including "sight chairman". He started the Sight Committee project to give college scholarships to visually handicapped students with others in the community, and it brought him so much happiness to do so.
Professionally, John built a very successful career in sales that traveled the trajectory of the tech industry. He was a lifelong Jets fan, a moral and open-minded soul, a lover of bridge, golf, tennis, but, most of all, time with family. He will be greatly missed by his daughter, Nancy Chambers Urbonas, and son-in-law Kevin Urbonas, of Westerly, RI, and their children, grandson Quinn and granddaughter Hope; and his cherished son, Christopher Chambers, daughter-in-law Brittany Leader Chambers, and their two children, granddaughter Sloane and grandson Cooper. He will be held in loving memory by his countless cousins and friends, and the caring community at Brighton Gardens in Saddle River. There is comfort to know he is once again reunited with his darling Kathie, and together they can hold in their heavenly arms once more their young daughter, Kathleen, who died at birth in 1978.
