He is survived by his wife and best friend of 35 years, Barbara Peterson (nee Wiley), and his cherished daughters, Kate and Karly. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Phyllis Wiley (nee Rockwell), who shared their home and was a constant, loving presence in Jack’s life and the lives of his daughters.
Jack was predeceased by his father, Charles Peterson; his brother, Scott Peterson; and most recently his mother, Jane Peterson (nee Kleindienst). He is also survived by his sisters, Jayne Quinn (Michael), Anita Bannon (late John), Barbara Blankenbush (Darren), and Laurie Reilly (Bill); nieces and nephews, Amanda Goldfarb (nee Quinn) and her husband, Matthew, Ryan Quinn, Autumn Blankenbush, and Kyle Tallman (born Kyle Peterson); and grand-nephew and grand-niece, Oliver and Lilian Goldfarb.
Jack was born in Jersey City, NJ, and moved with his family to Westwood at the age of six. He graduated from Westwood Regional High School in 1975 and maintained lifelong friendships with many friends from his graduating class.
Following high school, Jack attended the Electronic Computer Programming Institute, beginning a successful career as a computer programmer and systems analyst. Some of his most rewarding years were spent at Sony Electronics in Woodcliff Lake, where he met his wife, Barbara, and also formed lasting friendships that meant so much to him. Jack later worked at Colgate-Palmolive, where he served for 14 years before retiring in 2022.
Jack loved baseball and was an avid New York Yankees fan. He enjoyed reading and almost always had a book in progress. He was also a “Jeopardy!” master, and his family often told him he should go on the show. He took great pride in caring for his home and yard, spending many hours working on the lawn, gardens, and flower boxes. Easy-going and witty, Jack had a wonderful sense of humor and made everyone feel comfortable. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 25, 2026, from 2PM-7PM at Becker Funeral Home in Westwood, NJ. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12p on Monday, January 26, at Saint Andrew’s Church in Westwood, followed by interment at George Washington Cemetery in Paramus.
