June Margaret (O’Brien) Brown of Park Ridge, NJ passed away surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, January 30, 2025. June was a loving and devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, aunt, neighbor and friend to many.
June was born in the Bronx, NY to Molly and Sonny O’Brien of Ireland, the fourth of their six daughters. She graduated from Cathedral High School in New York City and worked as a secretary upon graduation. In 1956 she met a handsome, young soldier named Norman Brown at Blondells in the Bronx. The day they met, he told her he was going to marry her, and their great love story began. They married in 1958 and started their family in the Bronx but soon moved to Park Ridge, NJ, where they raised their family in the house where June spent the next 60 years.
June and Norman had 56 beautiful years together filled with travel, cruises, music, laughter, good food and wine, and most of all, family. When Norman passed away in 2012, June bravely continued to surround herself with family and friends and remained active. She filled her days by volunteering at the Tri-Boro food pantry, planning luncheons with friends, attending senior meetings in Sparkill, taking trips to the shore, visiting family and friends overseas, and spending summer days at the Park Ridge Pool. She was a parishioner at Our Lady of Mercy parish for 60 years and, until recently, attended mass weekly. For the past few years, she faithfully attended mass online, and she also looked forward to Sunday visits from her Eucharistic Minister, Laura.
June was predeceased by her parents Molly and Sonny, her adoring husband Norman, her sisters and their husbands, Anna Scott (Bob), Winifred McCabe (Kip), and Dorothy Healy (Jack). She was also predeceased by sisters-in-law Frances Jankowsky and Maureen Revie (Bob), along with her brothers-in-law, James Brown and Ernest Brown.
June is survived by her loving children and their spouses, William Brown and Diana Gibson, Geralyn and Robert Westervelt, Christine and Kevin O’Neill, Jennifer Brown and Dominic Tidman, and James Browne and Kira Epstein. She is already missed by her adoring grandchildren, Erin, Luke, Alexander and Elise Westervelt, Liam Browne, and Magnus and Nigel Browne. She also leaves behind her beloved sisters and sister-in-law, Theresa McDonnell, Dolores Mulvey, Virginia Brown, and Mary Brown and her brother-in-law, Bernard Jankowsky. Their lunches, laughter, and long conversations just won’t be the same. Her upbeat and loving presence will be missed by her many nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends.
The family will receive their relatives and friends on Sunday, February 2, 2025, from 2 PM to 6 PM, at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ, 07675.
A mass celebrating June’s life and faith will be held on Monday, February 3, 2025, at 12:30 PM at Our Lady of Mercy Church at 2 Fremont Ave., Park Ridge, NJ, 07656. The interment will follow at Westwood Cemetery at 23 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ 07675. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tri-Boro Volunteer Ambulance Corps, https://www.tbvacnj.org/.
