

PICCIRILLO, Lucy, 93, of Hillsdale, NJ, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017. She and her late husband, Angelo, were the founders of Angelo's Ristorante in Lyndhurst. Lucy was instrumental in the restaurant from it’s very early days; baking pies and other homemade dishes and developing many of the recipes, including the manicotti, which remains a signature dish to this day. Lucy was born and raised in East Rutherford, NJ. When she was 15, she and Angelo met on a hayride in Auburn, NY, where she was visiting relatives. They were married ten years later, in 1948, and settled in New Jersey. They were longtime residents of Hillsdale, NJ. In the early 1980's Lucy reconnected with cousins in Italy, and she and Angelo made annual visits to Italy for many years afterwards, staying in Rome, Ischia and Capri. They also were frequent visitors to Aruba, where they would often meet up with friends and customers. She is survived by her daughters Diane (Mark) Iocolano and Lisa (Rob Lewis) Piccirillo; granddaughters Chloe and Talia Lewis; many nieces and nephews; and caregiver Annette Stewart. She was predeceased by her husband Angelo Piccirillo, her parents Frank and Teresa DeGaetano, and siblings Marie Kaiser, Joseph DeGaetano, and Annette Skidmore. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. John the Baptist RC Church, 69 Valley St., Hillsdale, NJ, at 10 AM on Tuesday, Sept. 26, followed by entombment at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Township of Washington, NJ.
