

Margaret “Margie” Sherlog, born on August 16, 1929 in the Bronx, New York City to the late Elisabeth and Austin Meehan entered into eternal rest at the age of 93 on July 6, 2023. She married her beloved husband David on September 21, 1957 and they embarked on a loving life path in the Bronx that continued with their move to Washington Township, New Jersey in 1972. In their home they enjoyed celebrating holidays, cookouts and their Irish heritage with family and friends. Being home and sharing a cup of tea with friends and family was one of Margaret’s simple, quiet joys in life. In her last year she resided in Brentwood, Tennessee.
Margaret was a phone operator for Bell Telephone after graduating from James Monroe High School in the Bronx. While raising her family Margaret worked in cafeteria services of Westwood Public Schools, and insurance administration for Safeco, before resuming her phone company career with Verizon.
Margaret had a deep sense of love for her country and her faith. She was a devoted Catholic and found much joy in not only attending daily Mass but being an active member of the Rosary and Altar Societies at Our Lady of Solace, Bronx, New York and Our Lady of Good Counsel, Washington Township. After retiring Margaret volunteered countless hours in every aspect of parish life at Good Counsel. Margaret’s love for her community and country shone through with cooking meals for the residents of Harrison House who live with HIV/AIDS. She sponsored the education of children in parts of the world that face great challenges and also prepared care packages for veterans in need.
She is predeceased by her husband, David A. Sherlog, her aunts, Margaret and Nora, siblings, Mary(Larry), Anna( Al), Elizabeth( Frank), Joey( Carol), and her niece MaryAnne( George) and her nephew Frankie.Margaret enters heaven leaving behind her children, William, Cathleen, and Lawrence (Pamela), as well as her adored grandchildren: Sean, Daniel, Clare, Owen, Grace and her great granddaughter, Emma. She is also survived by her nephews and nieces, Jimmy (Karen), Rosemary, , Elizabeth (Steve), Margaret, Mary Elizabeth, her cousin, Mae, many grandnieces, grandnephews, and a host of friends that were near and dear to her heart.
A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, July 18 from 9AM to 11AM at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:30 AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 664 Ridgewood Road, Washington Township, NJ, 07675. The interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery, Airmont, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to support feeding America at Foodbanknyc.org or StJude.org to support life saving treatment for children.
