Martin Thomas Casey

12 août 193820 juin 2020

Martin Thomas Casey, 81, of Emerson, NJ passed into the hands of Our Lord on June 20, 2020 at Pascack Valley Hospital in Westwood, NJ following a brief illness. He was raised in the Bronx, NY, son of Martin Joseph Casey of County Mayo, Ireland and Elizabeth McVey Casey of County Longford, Ireland. He attended St. Joseph’s Parish Elementary School and Bishop Dubois High School, before receiving bachelor’s and MBA degrees from Fordham University in New York. Following graduation, he was employed by Equitable Life Assurance, representing the company at the 1964-65 World’s Fair in Flushing, NY. Later, he worked for the Amtrak railroad system. In the days before automation reigned, his resonant voice could be heard ringing through the halls of the Pennsylvania Stations in New York and Newark, announcing the incoming trains with spirited verve. He retired from Amtrak after thirty years of service. Marty had a passion for the New York Yankees and was a faithful, lifetime fan. He enjoyed music, dancing and Irish culture. Many questioned whether he was originally from Ireland. With a wry smile, he would respond that he was from “County Bronx” with an extra lilt. Indeed, he had a quick Irish wit and warmth that will be sorely missed. He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Mary; his treasured daughter and son-in-law, Deirdre Casey Infante and John Infante; and cherished granddaughter, Louise Infante. He is lovingly remembered by his dear siblings: John Casey, Hanoria Casey, Mary Thiessen, and Michael Casey. In light of the COVID pandemic, visitation will be private. A socially distanced Mass of Christian Burial, open to friends and family, will be offered on Thursday, 6/25/2020 at 10:30am at Assumption Church in Emerson, NJ with interment to follow at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah, NJ. Memorial services and celebration of Martin’s life will be convened at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Little Sisters of the Poor (Totowa, NJ) or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

We love Marty Casey! He was a valued and dearly loved member of our Bible study for years. I learned so much from him. We had many laughs and will miss his unique sense of humor. Dave and I want to say we will miss Marty very much! But, I am sure he is heaven, today in Jesus' loving arms.

Mary, we are so sorry to hear of your great loss. Our hearts go out to you now. We would have been to the funeral but only heard tonight. Our prayers are with you, Marty and your family. We are sending you a BIG Hug!

Much Love,
