DOWNES, Robert F., 78, of Wanaque, NJ, formerly of Montvale, NJ, passed away on Saturday, July 28, 2012. Robert was, first and foremost about his family. He was born in New York, NY to Thomas A. Downes, Sr., and Madeline F. Taggert. Beloved husband of Mary A. Downes (Marron) for 55 years. Devoted father of Kevin and his wife Amy, Marie LaDuca and her husband Bob, Madeline Henderson and her husband Bill, Peter and his wife Eileen and Robert Jr. and his wife Julianne. Cherished grandfather of Christen, Pamela, Matthew, Ryan, Colleen, Christopher, Michael, Danielle, Shannon, Timothy, Sean, Brendan, Dylan, Ashley, Kelly & Lily. Dear Brother of Thomas & Maryann Downes of New City, NY and pre-deceased by his sister Eileen O’Neil. Dear Brother-In-Law of Theresa Ryan, Rita Dougherty and Ann Ardese. He was a member of the United States Marine Corp. 1953-1961. He was a Korean War Veteran. He worked for the New York Telephone Company as a Purchasing Manager from 1955-1990. He was President and CEO of Downes Tree Service, Inc. in Hawthorne, NJ from 1990-Present. He was a member of the Montvale Town Planning Board for many years. He was a trustee at St. Joseph’s Regional High School – Montvale, NJ. He was Man of the Year at St. Joseph’s Regional High School in 1984. He was a member of the Saddle River Marine Corp. League. He was his family’s biggest fan at every event!! He was deeply loved and will be missed by all who knew him. The family will receive their relatives and friends at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ on Wednesday, August 1st from 2-5 and 7-9 PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, August 2nd at Our Lady of Mercy Church, Park Ridge, NJ at 10:00 AM.
