Roy L. Mayer

Roy Mayer, 94, formerly of River Vale, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2020. He was the beloved husband of the late Muriel Mayer for 65 years and devoted father of Kevin Mayer and his wife, Lissa; Timothy Mayer and his wife, Doreen; and the late Cathleen Mayer. Loving grandfather of Megan Stengel and her husband, Matthew; Cory Mayer and his wife, Samantha Tricoli; and Patrick Mayer. Cherished great-grandfather of Eamon, Mary Katherine, and Theresa Stengel. In addition to his daughter, Roy is predeceased by his parents, Benedict and Catherine, and his six brothers and sisters.

Roy grew up on his family’s farm (currently Van Saun Park) in Paramus, NJ, and served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He worked for AT&T for several decades. Roy and Muriel lived in River Vale for 60 years, where they raised their family and later enjoyed their retirement.

Roy was an avid gardener, spending countless happy hours volunteering at Skylands Manor and nurturing orchids in his own greenhouse, and a gifted woodworker who crafted treasured carvings for his children and grandchildren. He also traveled widely – he camped and explored the United States with his children and grandchildren and in his retirement toured the world via numerous cruises with his wife and dear friends.
