To Vincent and Sal~

Your father would always sit with me when I was on cafeteria duty and talk about his 2 sons....how you were both his whole life... and how you would joke about what he was wearing and how he would cook all this delicious food and how you would all go out to eat at all these wonderful restaurants and visit the city.  He just lived for the 2 of you.  Your dad and I grew closer over our love of the Lord Jesus.  He had so many questions and we would discuss all his concerns and thoughts and interest in God.  He grew to know that the most important decision anyone could ever make in this life is accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior in order to inherit the FREE GIFT of eternal life in Heaven.  This gift cannot be earned with good works, but only by confessing one's sins and placing them at the foot of the cross where Jesus paid the penalty and died for all our sins.  Your father accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior toward the end of his life, and now he is in glory with Jesus...not because he was a good person or because of anything he did to earn that gift... but because he placed his trust in Jesus to forgive him through His death on the cross.  I know for a fact that if your dad had one wish, it would be that his two sons also accept this free gift of salvation as well, so he can spend eternity with the both you forever.  So as his friend, I am again sharing that with his sons.  Trusting in Jesus only and living life with Him is what being a Christian is.  Nothing more, nothing less, nothing else.  I pray his example to you both carries on in your lives and that you come to know Jesus as your father did.

I miss you Sal....my dear friend and brother in Christ. This world is less bright without you in it.  I will see you in Paradise one day where we can sit and talk forever.... but this time with answers to all your questions!

For many years I only knew you as "Buddy's Dad", the cheerful man who walked past my house each day and paused to exchange a friendly greeting . Amazingly, in ten minute intervals over many years, I learned much about you.  I learned about a husband who loved and missed his wife after her untimely death. I learned about a loving father who was proud of his sons and spoke of their many achievements and accomplishments.  I learned of a man whose favorite pastime could be found in the sun at the swim club and that a trip to NYC with his family was his pure delight. 

We spoke about everything -our families, food, vacations, ailments - and we'd make jokes at the expense of our souls. We'd smile, we'd laugh, we'd complain, but we never prepared for this.

Sal, you will always be "Buddy's Dad" to me, but now I will add "friend" and "missed" to your name. Thanks for the gift of your time, and may God Grant you eternal peace.


To My Friend Sal, 

My heart is heavy and in pain. I haven't been able to find the words to write what reflects this feeling, so I will default to keeping it light hearted. Laughter was our thing after all. 

Some of us were lucky enough to be in your inner circle and be looked after.  God knows I needed looking after. You were our 'Charlie' and I am so grateful to have been one of your 'angels'.  Thank you for all the times you looked out for me and took me under your wing.  

You know I enjoyed our regular chats and weekly texts, and now I will cherish them more than ever before.  

Whenever I spoke to someone about you,  I always prefaced it as, "You know Sal, the older gentleman I work with?" I never knew exactly what your title was, but now as I am thinking of you it is very clear to me what your title was in my life. You were my FRIEND. 

And so the void is ours to bear. Sal, I will always remember you as a loving father, husband and as a gentleman. I  picture you with your freshly done mani pedi, sitting with Joanne having a glass of red wine at brunch somewhere in the city, and OF COURSE  wearing a crisp pink shirt with your signature matching socks. 

You are missed beyond measure. Truly.  Thank you for being a friend to me Sal. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Dear Sal,

Thanks for being a friend, especially when I first arrived at Northern Valley. I always enjoyed our morning conversations about coffee and your witty banter. It's clear that your impact on our staff and the community will live on in our hearts and minds. I remember when I told you that I bought my house in Westwood and you immediately offered up some yard equipment and supplies. I was so appreciative of your gesture. It was just a small indication of the man you were. You spoke constantly about the pride you had for your sons. I'm certain they'll continue to carry on your legacy in their own lives.

 Rest peacefully, friend.

We prayed for you at Mass yesterday and I was filled with a flood of memories of a good man who deeply loved his wife and children. Our lunchtime chats at Northern Valley always included updates about your sons. As a proud and loving dad, you spoke of them and their accomplishments. I appreciate how much you cared for the safety and well-being of everyone at NVOT. 
Rest peacefully Sal and may your family be comforted by loving memories of a life well lived.

Mr Grosso was my favorite customer who has been bringing Buddy into our shop for over 10 years. I loved chatting with him. He was always so kind and funny, and loved to poke fun at me. He would tell stories of his wife who I also remember fondly, and was always so proud to fill us in on the latest news with his boys that he loved so much. His love for his family was such a beautiful thing. He was excited to retire and start the next chapter of his life. He also gave me advice and guidance with dealing with my kids, their college process, and always assured me I was doing a good job. People like him are rare, and we will truly miss him. Sending love and strength to his family 💕

Many many years ago, I was sister in law of Sal's.  We shared  happy memories. 

Condolences to his family



Sal was truly one of a kind, a tough shell surrounding a big heart.  In baseball, his special name for me was "Mary Jane".  I wasn't fond of it, but I always knew he was coming from a good place.  He  had  a powerful impact on those who were fortunate enough to be around him.  Our Mets game outings were always great, regardless of whether the game was any good.  Being able to connect outweighed anything else.  Sal will be sorely missed, though many great memories will remain.  Rest in peace, my good friend, and my sincere condolences to his family.  

He was a great friend and I always looked forward to seeing him, his smile, and sense of humor.  He was so proud of his wonderful family, service to our country, and getting together with his friends. I will never forget the times we spent together. My sympathy and prayers are with Sal, and his family. I know he will be missed by me and all who knew him. 

Our sons graduated from Westwood High School. The group of young men(boys) organized a fishing trip. Sal Sr. Was on the trip and we witnessed a boating event that made the evening news. Sal Sr. Will be missed...he raised fine sons!

Sal was a warm smile and a big hug and gave off a strong vibe that made me feel cared for in his presence. I've seen him only a couple of times since high school, but he'll always have a special place in my heart. Our sincere condolences to the family.

Dear Sal,
I am beyond sad knowing about your passing.  I take comfort in knowing that you are in a great place with Jo and not in pain. You always talked about your boys and I fondly remember our conversations about fatherhood. 
You always had a great sense of humor. You could dish it and take it. You had such a great wit.  I loved working with you because you cared about the kids; all of them. You also had a tremendous impact on all that you came in contact with.  You taught me how to properly dab lotion on  the hands by placing a drop directly next to the thumb and index finger of each hand.  You were a character with a hearty laugh. I will miss you and my life is better for knowing you! 
Your boys, I mean your men, had a phenomenal dad and caring role model.  You  showed them what really matters.  This moral compass will forever serve them well.
I hope to see you soon so we can continue the banter and catch up.

Vinny and Sal.. we are so saddened by the news,of your Dad's passing. We look back fondly at all the chats we've had with him ...both at the pool and whenever seeing him around  town.  He always spoke so proudly of both of you and your accomplishments. He is at peace  back with your wonderful Mom and , although the pain you feel is difficult, we hope you always look at the fond memories,you have and feel at peace. Dear Sal,
Your passing took me by surprise but knowing you, you likely knew the depth of your illness. I met you almost 15 years ago and knew at your first interview that you were a caring person, hard working to do things the right way, and that you would always have my back. You were good for Northern Valley and a good friend.

 I know it goes without needing to be said but I’m saying it. I love you 💕 You have always been a huge part of my life and always there for me. Your boys have turned into fine young men which is a direct reflection of you and Joanne.

We will miss you more than words can ever describe.

Sal & Vinny - I am so very sorry to hear of your dad’s passing.  I will miss sitting with him at the pool and talking for hours, our text messages keeping each other posted on what was going on in our lives, but most importantly I will miss his friendship.  Please don’t ever forget how proud he was of both of you and the wonderful young men you became. I’m sure your mom welcomed him into Heaven with open arms. Please let me know if there is anything you need. 

My dear dear friend in Christ..... how I will miss alllll our talks/texts about Jesus our Savior and how to know for sure if we will be in Heaven when our time on this earth is done or not. I pray allll our texts will live on in the lives of your precious sons whom you lived for and prayed for every single day, which I will continue to do for you. “As long as my sons are happy, I am happy” was your most favorite quote.  As I read back through all our texts over the past year, I can see clearly how the hand of God used this pandemic and worked personally in your life to draw you closer to Him, and now you are with Him!!!! We shall continue our heavenly conversations one day my friend! Until we meet again...Jacqui🙏
