Mr. Savas J. Savas, 84, born and raised in Bronx, NY and long-time resident of Westwood, NJ, passed away on May 25, 2018. Savas, proud son of Zoe and Demetrios, loving husband of Christina, devoted father of James and Cary, doting grandfather of Veronica and Rex, loyal brother of Leonidas and brother-in-law to Mae, caring uncle of Zoe and Steven, lived a joyous, healthy and prosperous life. Savas and his identical twin-brother Leonidas enjoyed a special brotherly bond and their childhood friends sometimes referred to them as a singular entity, “Twin”, instead of by their individual names. Savas was known to family, friends and co-workers as a kind, honest, happy, hard-working, generous, thoughtful and dignified human being. He was a shining example of the best in all of us.
Early in his career Savas was an accomplished draftsman at a navel architect firm and went on to serve as Executive Vice President at PJ Mechanical, where he proudly worked for thirty-seven years. Savas was a United States Army veteran serving in the Second Division at Fort Lewis during the Korean War. Savas was a member of the Masonic Lodge since 1960 and once served as Worshipful Master of Dante Lodge No. 919, 10th Manhattan District, NY. He was an active member of The Metropolitan Cathedral of St. John the Theologian in Tenafly, NJ and a proud member of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA). Savas was a diehard St. Louis Cardinals fan, appreciated sailboats and cars, collected stamps, annually cultivated ‘his’ tomatoes and unapologetically dunked his cookies in milk. Savas will be greatly missed and never forgotten by his family and friends.
The wake will be held on May 29th from 2-4pm and 6-9pm at Becker Funeral Home - 219 Kinderkamack Rd, Westwood, NJ. The funeral will be held on May 30th beginning with church services at 10am at St. John the Theologian - 353 E Clinton Ave, Tenafly, NJ, and at George Washington Memorial Park - 234 Paramus Rd, Paramus, NJ. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society.
