

Sondra Varoli, 89, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2024, at Villa Marie Claire, a residential hospice in Saddle River, NJ, surrounded by her loving family. She was the devoted and loving wife of David Varoli.
Born October 11, 1934 in New York City, to the late Joseph and Helen Barillo. Sondra was educated in the New York City schools and was a proud graduate of Grover Cleveland High School, Ridgewood, NY, on June 25, 1952, with Honors.
On January 24, 1954, the Brooklyn Eagle announced that Sondra Barillo and David Varoli were to be married. They both lived on Nicholas Avenue in the Ridgewood section of Brooklyn and attended Grover Cleveland HS. These soul mates were married on June 20, 1954 and lived in Brooklyn until moving to New Jersey in the 1960s. Their marriage had many milestones that spanned over 6 decades. Together, they celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in 2020.
Sondra is survived by her 3 children: Donna and her husband Dr. Peter Maslak, Debra and her husband Gerard Abbattista, and David Varoli and his wife Marianne O’Toole. She is also survived by her 9 grandchildren, one great grandchild (a 2nd arriving within weeks), 4 grand-dogs, and 1 grand-bunny. Maslak grandchildren: Kathryn, Victoria (Patrick), and Gregory; Abbattista grandchildren: Michael (Norma), Jenelle (Harry), and Julia; and Varoli grandchildren: David, Elizabeth, and Andrew. Sondra is also survived by her sister Lorna Gilpin and Lorna’s husband Donald. Sondra was predeceased by her husband David.
Sondra’s enthusiasm for exercise knew no boundaries. She was a physical education teacher for 44 years teaching grades 1st through 8th. Aside from family and faith, her passions included tennis, pickle ball, Zumba, yoga, dance, treadmills, walks, counting her steps, travel, Italian cooking, searching on her iPad, organizing dinners with her family and friends, dominos, mahjong, canasta, and finding a great bargain.
