

Alphonse Peter Paul Gedutis, 92, of Wethersfield, husband of the late Madelene (Kozak) Gedutis, died peacefully at his home on Monday (December 05, 2011). Born in Waterbury on March 30, 1919, he was the son of the late Paul and Amelia (Masavicius) Gedutis. He grew up in Hartford and attended Hartford Public High School. Upon graduation, he worked for Standard Printing in Hartford for 55 years as a prized typesetter. In his later years, Alphonse fulfilled his lifelong desire to be an artist. He gathered and pressed flowers and created decoupage cards. His beautifully rendered cards were a delight to all who knew him. Alphonse took great pride in his Lithuanian heritage and being an active member of the Holy Trinity Lithuanian Church in Hartford. He cherished his granddaughter, Mae. He also enjoyed recipe hunting, cooking, painting and watching golf and basketball. Al showed a remarkable zest for life, especially in his last years. Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Donald and his sisters, Anne (Gedutis) Dabkowski and Nellie (Gedutis) Guirrini. He is survived by his sister, Eleanor (Gedutis) Yonika of Vernon; his daughters, Carolyn Gedutis of Boston and Cynthia Ryan, her husband Jay and their daughter Mae of Windsor; his son, Jeffrey Gedutis and his wife Sharon of the U.K., as well as his dear friends, Gene and Reggie Ziurys and his many friends at the senior center and AHEPA.
The funeral is Saturday with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Trinity Church, Hartford. Everyone is asked to go directly to church. Burial will follow in Village Cemetery, Wethersfield.
