

Benjamin P. DeJohn, 85, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 19, 2012. Ben was predeceased by his beloved wife Teresa (DiPersio) DeJohn in 2010. He was born on March 30, 1927 to Charles and Constance DeJohn of Rocky Hill. He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. Ben was a second generation home builder, constructing and remodeling homes throughout the Greater Hartford area. He was proud to pass the knowledge he learned from his own father and Lennart Berg down to a third generation of home builders, his three sons Paul, Benjamin, Jr., and Gene. Ben was widely known for his friendliness, his love of the Red Sox, his love for his daughters-in-law, Ann Marie, Carol and Merilee, and most especially, his grandchildren: Paul, Jr., Michele, Kristin, Mark, Christopher, Ben, Lindsey, and Hope. He also leaves his brothers James, Anthony and Alfred, a sister-in-law Victoria, and a host of nieces and nephews. Ben loved his Terrywood Road and Atria friends. His nickname, the ""Mayor"", was a source of pride and he fully expected to resume his role upon return from the hospital.
Funeral services will leave Tuesday, April 24 at 9:15 a.m. from the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect Street, Wethersfield. Burial with will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Calling hours are Monday 4-7 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
