Carmela Volanti

Carmela (Festa) Volanti, 101, widow of Gaetano Volanti, of Hartford, entered into God’s care on Saturday, June 22, 2024. Carmela was born on June 26, 1922 in Floridia, Province of Siracusa, Italy and was the daughter to the late Sebastiano and Salvatrice (Trapani) Festa.

Carmela enjoyed cooking family meals and gatherings with her loved ones, including her precious grandchildren. They looked forward to the special sauce she always made on Sundays, her homemade pizza and spinach pies. She also enjoyed watching basketball during the season.

She and Gaetano immigrated to the States in the late 60's to build a new life for their family, though Italy would always be home. Carmela also had worked in the garment industry, creating dresses for over 10 years. She was avid communicant of Maria Reina de la Paz Parish – at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church.

Carmela will be dearly missed by her two daughters; Salvatrice Volanti of Hartford and Maria Concetta DiMaria and her husband, Michael DiMaria of Bethlehem and her two precious grandchildren, Alessandra and Michael DiMaria.

She is also survived by a sister in law, Giuseppa Volanti of Wethersfield and her family, including extended family in Italy. She was also predeceased by; Salvatore, Giuseppe, Sebastiano, Rosa and Antonietta Festa.

A time of visitation will be held Tuesday, June 25, 2024 from 5-7 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield. The family will receive relatives and friends Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at 9:45 to 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Maria Reina de la Paz Parish – at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, 494 New Britain Ave, Hartford.
