Carmella (Martino) Corraccio, “Carmie”, 93, of Wethersfield, passed away Sunday, Feb. 18, 2024 at Hartford Hospital. Born at home in Hartford on February 28, 1930, she was daughter of the late Lebratto and Jennie (Francoline) Martino; Carmella was affectionately known as the “baby” of the family. After graduating from Bulkeley High School, her family moved to Wethersfield. She worked for the Fuller Brush Company until she married her husband of nearly 50 years, the late Anthony J. Corraccio. Together, they built their first home in Wethersfield, where they raised their four children, Lynn Decker of Rocky Hill, Sheila Gilbert and her husband, David of Rocky Hill, with whom she made her home for the last eight years, John Corraccio and his wife, Gina of Wethersfield, and her late daughter, Gina Fitzsimmons. She is survived by her son-in-law, Michael Fitzsimmons, Sr. of Wethersfield. She so loved her grandchildren, who brought her endless joy; Courtney Decker of Rocky Hill, Anthony "A.J." Gilbert and his wife, Laurie of Springfield, MA, Michael Fitzsimmons, Jr. of Glastonbury, Stephen Fitzsimmons and his fiancée, Isabel of Brooklyn, NY, Camille Carney and her husband, James of Meriden, John Albert Corraccio of West Hartford, Gabriella Fitzsimmons of Brooklyn, NY, and Anthony J. Corraccio, II of Wethersfield; her great grandchildren, David J. Gilbert, II, Sean Sullivan, Laila Duffy and Riana Duffy; and one great-great grandchild, Declan Sullivan, all of Springfield, MA. She also leaves her best friend, her dog, Thurston. In addition to her loving husband and daughter, she was predeceased by her three siblings, Nicholas Martino, Frances D’Onofrio and Andrew Martino. Carmie was a devout Catholic, who instilled strong morals, family bonds and the love of God in those whose lives she touched – always giving selflessly of herself to family and friends alike, as well as anyone in need.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating her extraordinary, well-lived life will be observed 10 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 24th) directly at the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St., Wethersfield. There are no calling hours and she will be laid to rest privately. To honor and keep Carmie’s memory alive, all are encouraged to “commit a random act of kindness” when and wherever possible.
