

Charles “Charlie” J. Steinmiller, Jr., 94, of Wethersfield, beloved husband for 61 years of the late Helen A. (Zasonska) Steinmiller, and devoted father of Carol (Steinmiller) Massaro, Elaine Steinmiller-Paradise and Gary Michael Steinmiller, passed away peacefully with his three children by his side on Friday, May 11, 2018 at St. Francis Hospital.
Born on December 6, 1923, he was the son of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Schleicher) Steinmiller. Charlie was a lifelong resident of Wethersfield. He retired in 1985 from the Hartford Insurance Company after 25 years of service. Charlie was a proud United States Army Veteran of World War II having served in the European Theater of Operation and was awarded Battle Stars for his participation in the Normandy and Northern France campaigns. He was a past member of V.F.W. Post 9945, the Wethersfield Lions Club and the Wethersfield Little League. In addition, Charlie was a former member of the Wethersfield Volunteer Fire Department. He was a charter member, and the First Captain to serve at Firehouse Company #3 when it was organized in 1957. Also, he was a member of the Wethersfield Firefighters Association, AARP Chapter 1222, and the Old Elm Senior Citizens Club.
Charlie will be missed by his daughters Carol (Steinmiller) Massaro and her husband Jerry of Wethersfield, Elaine Steinmiller-Paradise and her husband David of Wethersfield, and his son, Gary Steinmiller and his wife Linda of Wethersfield. In addition, Charlie leaves his grandchildren, Lisa Verderame and her husband Michael of Wethersfield, Abby Rogers and her husband Craig of Rocky Hill, Katherine Fote and her husband Ryan of Stamford, Kevin Paradise of Rocky Hill, Leah Nowicki, and her husband Charles of Monroe, N.Y. and Mark Steinmiller and his wife Emily of Colchester. Charlie also leaves his beloved great-grandchildren, Camden, Crosby, Colton, Bradley, Caroline, Kaylee and Zoë. In addition to his wife and parents, Charlie was predeceased by his sisters, Marion Rudolph and Dorothy Wynn.
Funeral services will begin Thursday, May 17th at 10 a.m. from the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Parish (Corpus Christi Church), 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield. Burial with military honors will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. Family and friends may call on Wednesday, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
