

Corrado P. 'Chippy' Sipala, 87, of New Britain, devoted husband of Mary (Silvestri) Sipala, died Sunday (June 20, 2010) surrounded by his loving family who served as his caregivers for the past three years. Born in Hartford, son of the late Paul and Angela (Gulino) Sipala, Chippy lived in Hartford for many years prior to moving to New Britain 53 years ago. He was employed as an inspector at Fafnir ?Textron in New Britain and Newington for more than 24 years. Chippy was a proud and decorated veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, having served his country as a 1st Sergeant during World War II. He was wounded in battle in France and was with Patton's Third Army and the 80th Division Infantry. Chippy received a Purple Heart with Clusters, a Bronze Star, a Combat Infantry Badge, a European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and a Victory Medal E.T.O. Chippy was a member of the Hardware City Stamp Club, D.A.V. Chapter 12, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, VFW Wethersfield Post #7827 and loved his UCONN Huskies and his trips to the casino. Besides his wife of 60 years, Chippy is survived by four adored children; a son, Paul Sipala of New Britain; three daughters, Rosemary Petruff of Tuscon, AZ, Angela Sipala and Donna Sipala, both of New Britain and a brother, Paul Sipala of Hartford and many nieces and nephews. Chippy was predeceased by a brother, Joseph and a sister, Carmelina. Corrado's family would like to thank Dr. Margaret Rathier and Kathy O'Neill, APRN, both of the VA; Sandy Allen, Amanda Bryant and the VNA Hospice Care of Central Connecticut for the special care and attention they gave Corrado during his illness. Funeral services will be Thursday (June 24, 2010) with a Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Jerome Church, 1010 Slater Road, New Britain. Everyone is asked to go directly to church. Burial with full military honors will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield.
