

Dominic DellaRipa, 85, of Wethersfield, husband of Mary (Ambruso) DellaRipa, passed away Saturday (December 2, 2006). He was born January 23, 1921 in East Hartford the son of the late Angelo and Antoinette (DiTorre) DellaRipa. Dominic was a proud U.S. Navy veteran serving from 1938 to 1945. He was present during the attack on Pearl Harbor and was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association. He participated in the invasions of North Africa, Sicily, Salerno and Anzio. Dominic was the youngest commissar in the Navy to be in charge of Naval Fleet Food Supplies. Dominic was also a member of the D.A.V. Chapter 12, V.F.W. Post 7827 in Wethersfield, and the Newington Knights of Columbus Council 3884. Including Mary, his wife of 56 years, he is survived by two sons, Dr. Angelo DellaRipa and his wife, Elaine of Westfield, MA, and Michael DellaRipa and his wife, Judy of Mechanicsville, VA; a daughter, Donna Flannery of Middlefield; a sister, Carmela Pappa of Hartford; a sister-in-law, Molly DellaRipa, wife of his deceased brother, John; and nine grandchildren. Dominic was predeceased by four brothers, Tony Pizzoferrato, Joseph Ferrato, John DellaRipa, and Victor DellaRipa; and two sisters, Mary Chiapponi and Anna Mazzeo. Funeral services will leave Thursday, December 7 at 9:15 a.m. from the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Corpus Christi Church, Wethersfield. Burial with full military honors will follow in Village Cemetery, Wethersfield. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
