

Douglas Campbell, 70, of Wethersfield, loving husband of Alayne (Strapp) Campbell, for 49 years, passed away peacefully, Friday, January 27, 2012 at Hartford Hospital after a sudden illness. He was born March 14, 1941 in Hartford and was the son of the late Harry S. and Jean (Cardno) Campbell. He attended Florence E. Smith School, Alfred E. Plant Junior High School and William Hall High School all in West Hartford. He was a proud US Navy veteran who served during the Viet Nam era. He served aboard the U.S.S. Hale DD 642, U.S.S. Adroit MSO 509, U.S.S. Canisteo A099, U.S.S. Suribachi AE 21 and the U.S.S. Chukawan AO100. He worked for Pratt & Whitney Machine Tool, West Hartford and was an electrician with Local 35, later to open his own company, Capstan Electric Inc. from 1976 to 1994. He then worked as Project Manager for Bonner Electric from 1996 to his retirement in 2010. Douglas was loved by all who knew him, he had a quick wit, a hearty laugh and his work ethic was never compromised. Besides his wife who he leaves behind to mourn are his beloved sons, Douglas and Scott Campbell, his grandchildren, Douglas J. Jr. and Joseph A. Campbell who he doted on. He also leaves behind to mourn his granddaughter, Julie Brittany Campbell and a close family friend, Charlene Barber. He also leaves a brother, Donald Campbell and wife, Agnes and sister, Jean and husband, Bob McBroom of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was a longtime faithful communicant of the Church of the Incarnation and served on Sunday’s as an usher. A special thank you to nurse Carol of 11 North at Hartford Hospital and the PCA’s who were inordinately kind and gentle. Another thank you to Dr. Andrew L. Salner.
Funeral service will be Wednesday 10:15 am from the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd. Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am at the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect Street, Wethersfield. The burial will be in Village Cemetery, Wethersfield with full military honors. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4-7 pm at the funeral chapel.
