
Elizabeth ""Betty Lou"" (Mercey) Federko, 68, of Hartford, beloved wife for 34 years of John Federko, passed into eternal life Saturday, (December 24, 2005) at Hartford Hospital with her loving family by her side after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Gofftown, NH she was one of eight children of the late Homer and Doris (Levine) Mercey. Elizabeth spent her early years in Tariffville before moving to Hartford where she lived the last thirty four years. She was employed by the Hartford Police Dept. as a school crossing guard for 15 years before the onset of her illness. Elizabeth enjoyed ballroom dancing and was an avid participant and successful contestant in several competitions throughout the Northeast. In her spare time she also enjoyed puzzles, spending time with her friends and her dog. Besides her husband she is survived by loving family; her two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Nadia Martin of Hartford and Kevin and Gail Messina of Windsor Locks; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Homer and Betty Ann Mercey of Windsor and Arnold and Sandy Mercey of Tariffville; three sisters, Barbara Jubrey and her husband Russell of Ellington, Marjorie Morris of Stafford Springs and Kathleen Belden in Florida, five grandchildren, Nicholas, Victoria, Mitchell, Alex and Grace, many nieces and nephews and her faithful companion, her dog Nikko. She was predeceased by a brother Jimmy Mercey and a sister Jerry Martin. The funeral will leave Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. from the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Augustine's Church, Hartford. Burial will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. The family will receive relatives and friends TODAY Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
