Gaetano Amenta

Gaetano “Guy” Amenta, 86 of Wethersfield, passed away peacefully Monday, April 14, 2025 with his family by his side. He is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Nuccia (Cassarino) Amenta. In addition to his wife, Gaetano is survived by his two daughters Paola Dumeer (David) and Jennifer Sala (Francesco), and his son Gaetano Amenta, Jr. (Jessica) all of Glastonbury. Gaetano leaves eight cherished grandchildren, Jonathan and Olivia Dumeer, Carmine, Loreto, Francesca, and Rocco Sala, Roman and Sonia Amenta; his brother Salvatore, sister Lucia Miano (Corrado) and brother-in-law Salvatore Cassarino (Lucia); along with many nieces, nephews, and countless friends. Gaetano was born on March 23, 1939 in Canicattini Bagni, Italy, the son of the late Giuseppe and Paola (Ferla) Amenta. Along with his parents, Gaetano was predeceased by his first wife, Lucia, his sister-in-law Concetta (Salvatore), his brother and sister-in-law, Santo and Concetta, and their son Giuseppe. After immigrating to Hartford as a skilled mechanic, Gaetano turned his passion for cars into a thriving auto body shop, building a reputation for quality and honesty. He owned and operated Friendly Auto Body & Towing in Hartford for over 50 years, which remains in his family today. Gaetano was a key contributor and founding member of the Canicattinese Society of Hartford where he served as its Treasurer for many years. He indulged his love of golf as a long-time member of the Wethersfield Country Club. Gaetano will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and dear friend. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, April 22 nd from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian burial following the calling hours, will be celebrated at 11:45 a.m. in Church of the Incarnation - Christ the King Parish, 544 Prospect Street, Wethersfield. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 453 Fairfield Ave., Hartford.
