Garth M. Herrick, die hard Yankees fan, fierce labor activist, cold brew connoisseur, gin martini enthusiast (bleu cheese olives only), Marshall Crenshaw’s biggest fan, THE movie quote master, but most importantly, Tammy’s devoted husband, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 17, 2021.
Born in Hartford, on January 29, 1966, he eventually moved to Newington where he would then spend the next 40 plus years of his life. He grew up right in the heart of Newington Center. Right around the corner from his home is where he got one of his first jobs, Steve’s Place. He met hundreds of amazing people over the 30 years he was there that he kept in contact with even after all these years. There will be a huge void in all the worker’s and customer’s hearts. All in that little house on Main Street is where his love flourished for The Beatles, Star Trek, late night talk shows, and most importantly, Tammy.
Aside from being a selfless father and husband, he was a loyal state employee with DDS for 35 years. In the last few years, he started working as a union organizer with the 11-99 union. He will be deeply missed by his coworkers and clients alike.
He leaves behind two beautiful, strong daughters, Sarah Herrick and boyfriend Steven Weis, and Audrey Herrick. He is also survived by his father, Garth Herrick; his sisters-in-law, Toni and John Montano, Tracy Burch and Scott Boyko along with his nephew, Thomas and niece, Marina Burch. Garth was predeceased by his mother Elizabeth Woodward Herrick, his aunt Rhoda Herrick, and his wife Tammy Herrick. May they rest together in paradise for eternity where they belong.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday Annunciation Parish (Holy Spirit Church), 183 Church Street, Newington. Burial will immediately follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Britain. For online expressions of sympathy to the family, please visit www.desopofuneralchapel.com.
