
George Y. West, 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday (October 13, 2010). He was born in Hartford on August 21, 1923, son of the late Mark and Sarah (Graham) West. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, having served as a staff sergeant in the Pacific. He received a Bronze Star for a battle in the Morotai Netherlands, East Indies. He had a part-time TV repair business in Hartford for 20 years, was a fire alarm technician and retired in 1976. He moved to Milford shortly after retirement where he loved living at the beach, gardening and taking walks on the beach. He was a kind and generous man – always available to help friends and family. He will be greatly missed by his loving family. George is survived by his wife, Jean West of Milford; two sons Mark West and his wife Deborah of So. Thomaston, ME, and Douglas West of Stafford; grandchildren: Kellie Gardner and her husband Jeffrey of Jarvisburg, NC, Lisa Canada and her husband Dennis of Easton, Michael West of Rockville, Timothy West of Belton, MO, Scott West of Orlando, FL, Edward West, Jr. of Kansas City, MO, Travis and Brittany West of Dresdan, ME; his great-grandchildren: Kelsie and Sydney Gardner of Jarvisburg, NC, Dennis ""DC"" and Jessica Canada of Easton, and Dalton and Sydney West of Kansas City, MO; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Edward West, his daughter Susan West and his sisters Anna Ogren, Jenny Officer and Margaret Van Rye. Funeral will be Saturday (October 16, 2010) at 11 a.m. at the James T. Pratt Funeral Service, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford.
