Irma Leone Harter

Irma Leone Harter, 86, of Wethersfield, died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday (January 19, 2013) at Avery Heights Nursing Home in Hartford. Born in Plainview, NY to Neclessen and Hedwig Harter, she lived in Hicksville, Long Island for most of her life. Prior to her retirement, Irma was employed as Office Manager at Davey Tree Co. She was a longtime active member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Hicksville, where she sang in the choir. Valedictorian of her class at Hicksville High School (1944), Irma was an avid reader, loved to play cards, Scrabble and Bingo and enjoyed traveling. She moved to Connecticut in 2002 and joined St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wethersfield. Irma is survived by her sister, Juanita “Johnnie” Hart of Wethersfield; her brother, the Rev. Harold Harter and his wife Gloria of Newport News, VA; her sister-in-law, Joyce Harter of Northfield, MN; Hank and Debbie Hart of Southington, and many, cousins, nieces and nephews, including Michael, Tim and Laurie Hart of Wethersfield; Steve Hart of Cromwell; Brian Harter of Hopkins, MN; Mavis Lucchin of Mays Landing, NJ; Don Harter of Manchester, NH; Susan Montour of Boise, ID; and Sandy Grimsley of Norfolk, VA. Irma was predeceased by her brother, Robert Harter.

The memorial service and burial are private, with no calling hours.
