

John Robert Ficara, 77, of Wethersfield, formerly of Newington and Hartford, beloved husband of Lorraine (Parsons) Ficara, passed away peacefully with his family and his loyal dog Sandy by his side after a courageous battle with Multiple Myleoma. John was born in Hartford on November 4, 1939 and was the son of the late Santo and Constance (DiGrano) Ficara. John served proudly in the U.S. Marines earning a Silver Star and Good Conduct medal. John was the owner and operator of Ficara’s Hairdesign of Hartford and Ficara’s Hair of Rocky Hill where he was loved by all of his customers. In his spare time, John loved to sail, he enjoyed his casino trips and a friendly game of poker. In addition to his wife, John leaves his son John Klaja and his wife Kristen of Haddam Neck, his daughter Cindy Klaja and her husband Tom of Colchester. He also leaves his son Richard Ficara of CA and his daughter Laura Ficara of Newington. His beloved grandchildren Christopher Solomon, Jason Solomon, Amber Klusek, Taylor Bernier, Jack Klaja, Andrew Lukaszewski, Brandon Lukaszewski and Christopher Ficara; and his great-grandchildren Madisyn, Sunny, Riley-Ann and Sophia held a special place in his heart. In addition, he leaves his brother Santo Ficara and his wife Sandra of Moodus and sisters Angela Marci and her husband Frank of South Windsor, Josephine Williams of Rocky Hill and his sister-in-law Josephine Ficara of Newington, his godson and nephew Fr. Jonathan Ficara along with many nieces, nephews, long-time friends and poker buddies. John was predeceased by his brother Sebastian Ficara. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday from the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Parish (Corpus Christi Church), 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield. Burial with military honors will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 2-6 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
