John Thomas Zito IV "Johnny" died peacefully in his sleep on Friday, January 21, 2022 at home in Hartford, Connecticut.Johnny was born on October 1, 1996 in Hartford, the second child of John T. Zito III and Lucia DeCaro. He is survived by his parents, his grandmother Rosemary Motto Zito, his older sister Cassandra Zito, younger brother Kevin Chalk Jr., younger sister Concordia Zito as well as his step-sisters Kailah, Malaika & Kierah King and his step-mother Imani Mamalution. He is also survived by his uncle Antony Zito & fiancé Johanny Pena, as well as his aunt and uncle Katie Zito Skinner & Sean Skinner and their children Dylan, Ethan & Alexa Skinner.Johnny was an exceptionally intelligent person with a very high IQ, whose talents in drawing, painting, glass-blowing, jewelry-making and music were all far above average. He was a true seeker, a scientist and chemist, an explorer of spirituality & psychedelics and an incredible, out-of-the-box thinker. Never one for small-talk, Johnny’s intellect and abilities were evident to anyone who interacted with him and his open, warm heart belied the depth of measure within everything he considered. Johnny could easily befriend someone his own age and culture or a child or elderly person from another part of the world. His love of psychedelic music led to Johnny displaying his jewelry and painted clothing at music festivals throughout the Northeast, where he felt most at home.
Johnny contracted Lyme disease as a young child at a time when this illness was even more misunderstood and misdiagnosed than it still is today. Sadly, he was never able to get proper treatment for his advanced case of Bartonellosis and the many co-infections he was afflicted with and his condition caused him constant pain, discomfort and agitation; as well as some schitzoaffective symptoms which are now well known as a result of Bartonellosis. Johnny was never free from this unfortunate mix of issues and he became somewhat obsessed with seeking remedies and researching the most up-to-date studies that related to his condition. He and his father, John III, remained dedicated for decades to finding relief for him through all types of healing modalities, both allopathic and holistic, none of which would ultimately release him from his suffering. It is the fervent hope of Johnny’s family and all who loved him that the medical establishment will turn a sincere focus to the study of Lyme disease and its many associated co-infections so that less people will have to endure the level of suffering that he did.
