

Lawrence “Larry” W. Orvis, 79, of Wethersfield, beloved husband of Patricia (Venditto) Orvis, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Monday, June 13, 2016. Born in Hartford on February 6, 1937, he was the son of the late Charles and Ruth (Fox) Orvis. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from UCLA and his Master’s degree from UCLA. Larry served proudly in the U.S. Air Force. He married the love of his life, Patricia, in 1956 and shared 60 wonderful years together living on the west coast before moving to Connecticut and settling in Wethersfield. He retired from the State of CT after many years of dedicated service. Larry loved to golf, garden and he enjoyed his vacations at the Outer Banks, NC. He was a lifetime fan of the New York Giants and the Yankees. Larry loved football, over this career he was both a coach and a referee for Pop Warner and High School football. More than anything, Larry was happiest when he was surrounded by his family. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he will be dearly missed by his wife Patricia; eight children, Michael Orvis, Mark Orvis and Kim Koehler, all of Reno, NV, Laurie Quinn and husband Brian of Middletown, Kristine Temmink and husband John of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, Karen Rapp and husband James of Sun Valley, NV, Shannon Volanti of Cary, NC and Amber Orvis of Newington; 16 adored grandchildren, Dr. Brian Quinn, Lilyann Lewis, Crystal Gause, Ashley Orvis, Lawrence Orvis, Timothy Quinn, Matteo Volanti, Stephanie Volanti, Neil Orvis, Andrew Orvis, Patrick Orvis, Jake Temmink, Troy Temmink, Luke Temmink, Avery Orvis and Olivia Casso and five cherished great-grandchildren, Taylor, Camden, Liam, Audrey Marie and Caelum. He was predeceased by his brother, Edward Orvis and sister, Edith Isham. Special thanks to Eddie at Maple View Manor and Maria and Sonya from Masonicare.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday (June 17) at 10 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Hwy., Wethersfield. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. Burial with military honors will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield.
