

Lawrence “Larry” Patrick Spellacy, Jr., 72, of Wethersfield, beloved husband for 32 years of Mary (Prout) Spellacy, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 29, 2017. Born in Meriden on October 23, 1944, he was the son of the late Lawrence Patrick Spellacy and Louise (Lenz) Spellacy. He was a Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of New Haven with a degree in Accounting. Larry served proudly in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, earning a Bronze Star. He worked for Eyelet Speciality, Shared Technologies and AA Transportation as a comptroller. In addition, he served on the Board of Alumni for the University of New Haven. Larry was also very involved with many local organizations. He was the Commander of the American Legion post in Wethersfield, a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Chairman of the Wethersfield Memorial Day Parade Committee as well as a former parade Grand Marshall, former Wethersfield Honoree of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and member and past President of the Society for the Advancement of Management. Larry also donated countless hours to numerous organizations, always serving those less fortunate. A longtime, faithful communicant of the Church of the Incarnation, Larry served as a Eucharistic Minister, visiting many parishioners who were homebound so they could receive communion, and was a member and past president of the church Men’s Association. He loved to travel, most especially to Ireland. In addition to his devoted wife Mary, Larry will be dearly missed by two aunts, Margaret Lenz of Meriden and Esther Harduby of Weston, VT; three sisters, Sheila Spellacy of Meriden, Mary Spellacy of South Windsor, and Susan Spellacy of Ellington; three sisters-in-law, Kathleen, Sheila and Rita Prout and three brothers-in-law, Thomas Prout and wife Linda, Kevin Prout and wife Barbara, and Stephen Prout, as well as several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and cousins whom he loved dearly.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday (May 4) at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St., Wethersfield. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. Burial with military honors will follow in Village Cemetery, Wethersfield. Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield.
